The CW's freshman breakout "The Vampire Diaries" is edging closer to a full-season pickup.
The network ordered nine additional scripts for the show, which is the closest step executives can take without committing to a full pickup.
The CW also gave a full-season order to veteran drama "One Tree Hill," picking up the back nine episodes, making it the second program after Fox's "Glee" to get a full order this fall.
The struggling "Melrose Place" also received an additional script order, with The CW ordering six scripts in the wake of signing original series star Heather Locklear to join the show.
Not included in The CW's order: "Beautiful Life," which had a modest premiere last Wednesday.
